Bertkauia lucifuga

No photo of live animal A moderately small (c.2-3mm) dark coloured barkfly. Scarce in Britain. It is found in leaf litter and under stones (not on trees). Females are apterous (no wings) while males are macropterous. Males have only been recorded in Britain very rarely.
Bertkauia lucifuga The abdomen and head of females are very dark; the male is somewhat paler and has wings.

The subgenital plate forms a simple ‘V’ shape.
