Trichopsocus clarus

<<Back
Species account
Trichopsocus clarus A moderately small (c.2.5-3mm) whitish barkfly. Uncommon in Britain and Ireland.
Trichopsocus clarus The forewing can appear superficially like an Ectopsocus species due to the dark marks around the edge of the wing (but Ectopsocus species do not have an areola postica cell). The areola postica often forms a shallow circular segment (cf. T. clarus).
Trichopsocus clarus The Cu1 vein on the hind wing has a dark patch that is only on one side of the vein. Very pale specimens are not uncommon and this dark mark may be absent.
Trichopsocus clarus Female
The internal spermatheca opening (near apex of abdomen) is not visible (cf. T. dalii which has a conspicuous round brown opening).
Trichopsocus clarus Male
The internal phallosome is only faintly visible (cf. T. dalii which has a phallosome that is clearly visible and of a different shape).
