A moderate sized (4-5mm), ‘picture-winged’ barkfly. One of the commonest species in Britain and Ireland. |

Areola postica joined to median vein. Characteristic forewing pattern with noticeable cluster of dark patches in the basal half of the wing. |
|
Occasionally specimens are found with the centres of the patches colourless. |
