Elipsocus nuptialis

<<Back
Species account
No photo of live animal A medium sized (c.3.5-4mm) barkfly. Scarce in Ireland, not recorded from Britain.
Elipsocus nuptialis The abdomen (both female and male) has a variable brown central area with light areas at either end and is similar to E. hyalinus. The abdomen colour is also very similar to E. pumilis and males can only be separated if they are strongly associated with identified females (i.e. population consists of a single species).
Elipsocus nuptialis Female
The dark patches in the basal half of the forewing are characteristic of the females of all British Elipsocus species. Only this species and E. hyalinus lack a dark patch over the areola postica cell.
Elipsocus nuptialis Female
Elipsocus nuptialis can be distinguished from the otherwise similar E. hyalinus by having pale crescents on the head (E. hyalinus has a uniformly dark head).
Elipsocus nuptialis Male
The wing is largely colourless and lacks any distinguishing features from other Elipsocus species.
