<<Back
Species account
Peripsocus parvulus Small (c. 2-3mm) brown barkfly. The species has been recorded on only three occasions (in England). Males have long wings (macropterous) while females are frequently short-winged (brachypterous).
Peripsocus parvulus No areola postica.  Macropterous forewing uniformly very pale brown.
Peripsocus parvulus Brachypterous forewing also has no areola postica cell.  Unlike the macropterous wing, a number of dark marks are present.
Peripsocus parvulus Peripsocus parvulus Female
Subgenital plate (underside of abdomen) has an apical lobe that differs from P. didymus and P. phaeopterus in being broader than long. The ‘arms’ are also wider than in those species and has a small colourless ‘triangle’ just above the apical lobe.
