A few adults have been found to overwinter on or under bark.



Summary: has been found in a wide range of habitats/microhabitats.

Associations:

  • Deciduous branches: birch, elder, grey sallow, hawthorn, oak, rowan and sea buckthorn.
  • Conifer/evergreen branches: broom, cedar, Chinese juniper, gorse, hemlock (Tsuga), ivy, juniper, larch, Lawson’s cypress, pine, spruce and yew.
  • Tree trunks: beech, birch, lime, oak and pine.
  • Other microhabitats: haystacks, litter under hawthorn hedge, marram grass, palings, straw bales, walls, under dead birch bark and under stones.

Sampling techniques: beating branches, brushing tree trunks, hand searching, litter sieving, Rothamstead light trap and sweep netting.
