Uncommon in Britain and Ireland
Summary: formerly found commonly on haystacks and now occasionally found on straw bales. Tends to be more frequent on tree trunks than tree branches. Can be very numerous in suction trap catches.
Associations:
- Deciduous branches: beech, elm and oak.
- Deciduous trunks: beech, birch and oak.
- Conifer/evergreen branches: broom, pine, sitka spruce and yew.
- Other microhabitats: haystacks, in heap of wild oat straw, old robin nest, straw bales.
Sampling techniques: beating branches, brushing tree trunks and suction trap.
