Species account |
A small (c.2mm) brown barkfly. Rare in Britain out-of-doors. Strongly brachypterous (very short wings). Males and females occur. |
This species has a characteristic dark stripe running across the eyes. |
The wings are very short and rounded and lack veins. These are easily detached and some specimens consequently appear to be apterous (wingless). Females frequently have a darker brown internal sac (spermatophore). |
