A medium sized (c.4mm) barkfly. Frequently, but not always, has a striking yellow colour (N.B. V. burmeisteri can also be bright yellow). Common in Britain and Ireland. Only females have been recorded. |

The forewing is distinctive by having ‘thick’ veins caused by the veins being outlined with brown. |

The dark stripe on the head is a useful aid to identification. |
