Species account |
A small (c2-3mm) dark barkfly. Uncommon in Britain and Ireland. Both brachypterous (short-winged) and macropterous (long-winged) forms are found. |
Macropterous specimens have dark wings (see also Valenzuela piceus). The wing usually has four main distinct colourless patches. |
All forms of the species can readily be distinguished from V. piceus and other species by the two light patches on the vertex. |
